Reading Notes: Alice in Wonderland, Part B
Story source: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (1865).
- Alice meets the March Hare, Mad Hatter, and a Dormouse
- This part is dialogue heavy with quick back and forth between each character
- The Hatter and Hare talk in circles
- Doormouse is half asleep but still joins in the conversation here and there
- Alice leaves the tea party frustrated
- She stumbles into the Queen's rose garden
- Gardeners (cards) are painting some white flowers red
- they explain that they accidentally planted white roses and needed to fix them before the queen sees
- The Queen and her procession come through (including the White Rabbit)
- Alice asks the White Rabbit where the Duchess is (since he was worried about her at the very beginning of the story)
- He says that she was sentenced to a beheading
- Alice helps the gardeners hide after the Queen orders them to be beheaded
- The Queen invites Alice to play croquet
- The balls were hedgehogs and mallets were flamingoes
- The Queen shouts "Off with their head" at everyone and Alice gets scared
- She notices the Cheshire Cat is there and talks to him
- The King and Queen notice the cat and the King wants him gone
- The execution turns into an argument about whether or not they can actually behead the cat since his body is invisible
- Alice distracts them and says the Cat belongs to the Duchess
- The cat disappears
Story idea: Story from White Rabbit's or Duchess's perspective. Or maybe even the Queen of Hearts
